Finally got my peace lily to flower after months of nothing

Finally got my peace lily to flower after months of nothing. I think it was because I moved it away from the direct afternoon sun—it was getting scorched in my Mediterranean spot. Now it's in bright indirect light and just put out two spathes. I'm still not sure if I'm watering it right though. Does anyone else struggle with knowing when these actually need water, or is it just me?
