I finally figured out why my snake plant was getting soft at the base—I was watering it way too often. Switched to letting the soil dry out completely between waterings, sometimes going three weeks without touching it, and it's thriving now. Honestly, these things want to be ignored in a mediterranean climate. Mine just sits by a bright window and does its thing. Best plant for someone like me who forgets about them.
