I finally figured out why my snake plant was getting soft spots at the base—I was watering it way too often. Turns out these guys really do prefer neglect. Now I water mine maybe once a month in winter and just let the soil dry out completely between waterings. It's thriving now with minimal fuss, which honestly makes it my favorite plant to own.
