I finally figured out why my ZZ plant looked so dull for the first year—I was watering it way too often. Switched to letting the soil dry out completely between waterings and it's honestly thriving now with much shinier leaflets. I'd share a photo but the difference is honestly just "less sad-looking," which sounds dramatic but that's how bad I was doing it. If you have one that seems sluggish, just back off the water and be patient.
