I finally figured out why my ZZ plant looked so sad the first year—I was watering it way too much. It turns out these guys really do prefer to dry out between waterings, even in my humid tropical climate. Now I just give it a good soak every couple weeks and it's thriving. If you have one that's struggling, try backing off the water and giving it bright indirect light. Mine's put out so much new growth since I made that change.
