I finally figured out why my ZZ plant was looking pale—I was watering it way too often. Turns out it really does prefer to dry out between waterings, even more than I thought. Now I'm on a schedule of about every three weeks, and the new growth coming in is so much greener and glossier. If you've got one struggling, honestly just back off the water and see what happens.
