I've had my Ficus lyrata for about six months now and I'm still trying to figure out its moods

I've had my Ficus lyrata for about six months now and I'm still trying to figure out its moods. It seemed happy near my west-facing window, but lately the lower leaves keep dropping and I'm second-guessing myself on watering frequency. I let the soil dry out pretty thoroughly between waterings since I've read they don't like soggy roots, but I'm wondering if I'm being too cautious? Anyone else struggle with keeping theirs from getting leggy?
