I've had my Monstera deliciosa for about eight months now, and I'm still figuring out the watering situation

I've had my Monstera deliciosa for about eight months now, and I'm still figuring out the watering situation. The leaves look healthy and it's putting out new growth, but I'm never quite sure if I'm overwatering or underwatering it. Does anyone else struggle with the "let the soil dry out between waterings" advice? I feel like I'm guessing every time. Also, I'm curious—has anyone's Monstera actually developed those characteristic holes, or is that mostly a myth?
