I've had my Sansevieria trifasciata for about eight months now and it's finally putting out a new leaf

I've had my Sansevieria trifasciata for about eight months now and it's finally putting out a new leaf! I kept worrying I was underwatering it, but I think the issue was actually too much attention—I learned the hard way that these plants really do prefer neglect. Now I water maybe once a month and it's thriving in a corner with indirect light. Has anyone else struggled with overwatering these, or is that just a beginner mistake I made?
