I've had my snake plant for almost a year now and I'm still figuring out the watering situation

I've had my snake plant for almost a year now and I'm still figuring out the watering situation. I know they're supposed to be drought-tolerant, but I got paranoid and watered mine too often at first—the soil stayed damp and I was worried about root rot. Now I'm letting it dry out completely between waterings and it seems much happier. Has anyone else struggled with this? I have a photo on my phone showing the new growth, but I'm curious if I'm finally doing it right.
