I've had my snake plant for three years now and it's finally showing me it actually prefers neglect over fussing

I've had my snake plant for three years now and it's finally showing me it actually prefers neglect over fussing. I was watering it monthly like everything else, but once I stretched it to every six weeks and let the soil dry out completely between waterings, it stopped getting that soft base rot I kept battling. Now it's putting out new growth steadily. Anyone else find they were just overwatering theirs, or did you need to adjust something else to get it thriving?
