My ZZ plant has gotten leggy over two years, so I finally cut it back hard last month. New growth came in dense and compact, which I wasn't expecting. Turns out they actually respond really well to pruning if you're patient—mine went dormant for a few weeks before the new stems emerged. If yours looks sparse, don't write it off. Worth trying before giving up on it.
