Notes on my Fiddle Leaf Fig

My Ficus lyrata has finally stopped dropping leaves after I moved it away from the heating vent — apparently mine was thirstier than the standard advice suggested, especially in my dry Mediterranean summer. Has anyone else found that the typical "water when top inch is dry" rule doesn't quite work for their fiddle leaf fig? I'm curious whether it's just my specific conditions or if the species is more particular than people admit. How do you judge watering for yours?
