Notes on my Fiddle Leaf Fig

I've had my Ficus lyrata for three years now, and I'm finally accepting that it doesn't want bright indirect light—it actually thrives in my arid climate when I give it afternoon sun and let the soil dry between waterings. Everyone talks about how finicky they are, but I think most of us overwater and keep them too shaded. Mine's pushing out two new leaves right now, which never happened before I stopped fussing with it so much.
