Notes on my Pothos

I've had my Epipremnum aureum trailing from a shelf for about three years now, and I'm finally getting the trailing stems to produce those characteristic fenestrated leaves. I read once that maturity is key, but I didn't expect it to take this long in a tropical climate where everything else seems to accelerate. Has anyone else noticed their pothos taking years to show real aerial root development and leaf splitting, or am I just impatient?
