Notes on my Snake Plant

I finally figured out why my snake plant (Sansevieria trifasciata) was getting soft spots on the lower leaves—I was watering it way too often! I switched to watering only when the soil is completely dry, which for me is maybe once a month, and the new growth looks so much healthier now. Has anyone else struggled with overwatering these? I'm curious if there's a better way to tell when mine actually needs water besides just waiting and guessing.
